Sing Me a Song is a collection of 23 poems
by some 16 Kenyan poets. The poems have been thoroughly assessed for level,
both in terms of language and content. The generous illustrations and the notes
at the end of the book should help the child to develop an early liking for
poetry..

This a delightgful collection
of short stories, plays and poems selected from a large offering submitted by
Kenyan writers gathered at Naivasha in July 1989. The writers were brought
together under the auspices of UNICEF to brainstorm the theme of Child Survival
and Development. What emerged then, and is distilled here, is vibrant, creative
and a joy to read. There are twelve items contained here; five short
stories, five poems, and two plays. Two of the pieces are in Kiswahili, in
keeping with the bilingual situatiion in Kenya. All of them are meant for
enjoyment. If some message of hope for the child in Kenya and beyond is gleaned
from them, this is a welcome bonus.

The poems in
this collection of poetry for children come from all over Africa and beyond.
The rhymes, riddles and poems cover topics including soccer, caring for the
environment and the funny, frustrating feelings of childhood. (From the
blurb). My contribution in this collection is a poem titled Football's
Woes. Published by Maskew Miller Longman (Pty) Ltd South
Africa.
