In this collection of verse from East
Africa we see young poets exploring their universe with fresh insight and
forthrightness. Professor Chris L. Wanjala, has included more than just one
poem from each poet to allow for a comparative study. He has also edited Faces
at Crossroads, Standpoints on Africa Literature and The Debtors. The book
borrows its title from Sam Mbure's poem entitled 'Singing with the night.' Here
are the two first stanzas: 'I will sing aloud not out of fear not
out of cowardice I must sing aloud for the night sings too.
I
will sing aloud for the night has stirred and now I see dawn spur
along the blushing horizons.'
