KIJABE

Why do you hide, Kijabe, why do you hide?
Deep in the rifted valley, why do you hide?
Inside the thick Magina forest, why do you hide?

Who do you hide from, Kijabe, who do you hide from
The begging monkeys of Gatithia
The sleeping volcanic Longonot?
Built by Italian prisoners of war?
The rocks the El –Nino uprooted?
The land sliding uplands?
Or could it be from the secretful satellite?

How long can you hide, Kijabe how long?
Till the charcoal burners ‘expose you’?
Or all the Maasai cattle take a dip in Lake Naivasha,
And exiled flamingos return to Lake Nakuru?
Or is it till the giraffes prune all the acacia trees?

Go on hiding, Kijabe go on
For hide you can but can’t run!
