SONG FOR MOUNT LONGONOT

Turn around Mount Longonot
We would like to see your windward side
We’d like to plant wheat and corn
Where the rain beats you hard

Turn around old Mount Longonot
We would like to see your leeward side
We’d love to trap the ill wind
That blows no mountain any good

Somersault sleepy Mount Longonot
Empty the cold Larva
Your fire went out long ago
Your dreams burned out a long time ago

Jump up eroded Mount Longonot
We’d love to see you level with Mount Kenya
We’d like to see you get taller

Until you can touch the clouds
Or until the clouds touch you
