Read and Recite My Poems

KIMATHI

A man fought once, a man fought hard
A man fought bravely to liberate his land
In the heart of the African jungle
He taught his men tactics of the struggle.

A man fought once, a man fought hard
When others did the white man dread
And dared not touch his chicken–like skin
A man fought fiercely to liberate his kin.

A man fought gallantly, he fought tactfully
He moved on his bell, artfully,
With a home-made gun he fought the white man
A master of disguise and guerrilla plan.

A man fought beautifully, he wouldn’t surrender
He wouldn’t be tricked, he was a man of candour
He wouldn’t let them grab all the land
A bible in one hand, a gun in other hand.

Kimathi fought and fought for freedom
Kimathi and others died for our freedom
Now when we pride ourselves as being free men
We are indebted to Kimathi and his men.
