THE CRANE

The crane lifts a load
That would break ten men’s back
Brick or marble, bars or beams
The crane will lift them to the top

It does not run on rail or road
Yet it sways, spins and breaks
Unlikely to break down or stop

The crane operator shifts the gear
The long arm obediently comes down
While workers wipe out their sweat
The crane unloads and rises again

Young and old stop to peer
At this new marvel of the town
While residents boasts of this new feat
Calmly, tirelessly works the crane.
