African Jungle Poetry Festival 2009

In 2007 Unesco entered the African Jungle Poetry Festival in the diary of Annual cultural events. The festival could not take place that year as it was the ear of general election and organizers feared that violence might rear its ugly face. Their predictions were right. More than one thousand people died and as thousands more were displaced and their properties destroyed.

Now peace has been restored and we are pleased to announce that the registration will open in July 2009. Kenya has two official languages English and Kiswahili. The first five participants to register for the festival will get a copy of Concise Oxford English Swahili Dictionary absolutely free. Keep these dates free for the festival.

The Masai Mara

There is a place far away
Known to many but ventured by few
A place thousands would wish they knew
A place they are invited to go and view.

There is place far away, yet close to my heart
Where wishes and real adventure part ways
Adventure takes off on a hot air ballon
Wishes go looking for a horse to ride.

White Browned Robin Chat and Yellow Vented Bulbul
Lull sleepy eyes to bed in the tent
And once in bed listen to the song of the Night Nubian Jar
And pray for sweet dreams and peaceful night.

There is a place not so far away
A place now even closer to my heart
Where the big five never stay far apart
Once you get there you will be reluctant to depart.

There is a place for unrestricted migration
From Seronera, Ngorongoro and Serengeti
There is a place you should migrate to
It the Masai Mara.
